  • Crisis Text Line is a global nonprofit organization that provides text access to a crisis counselor. The service is available in the U.S., U.K., Canada and Ireland. If you’re in the U.S., text HOME to 741741 to chat with a crisis counselor, use Whatsapp or message online. In Canada, text CONNECT to 686868. The line is jointly run with Kids Help Phone.

  • National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) - you can contact NAMI’s HelpLine to communicate with a volunteer. Connect by phone 1-800-950-6264 or text "HelpLine" to 62640, or chat online. It is available Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

  • The American Psychiatric Association database - Find mental health therapy online or in-person

  • The American Psychological Association refers to its state chapters where you can find therapists by location, including in some states finding those working pro bono or on a sliding scale.

  • If you don’t have insurance, the federal government recommends searching for a community health center near you that might offer free or low-cost mental healthcare.

  • Nonprofit nationwide networkOpen Path Psychotherapy Collective is another option that offers therapy at a reduced cost for people who are uninsured or underinsured.
